Major projects included: creating and supporting various programs for systems implemented at Crown Forest Corporation (later Fletcher Challenge), working with a project team responsible for converting/updating and enhancing a system of programs including inventory control, financials, order entry, licensing, etc. using DBMS, FMS, COBOL and Datatrieve from a Sperry mainframe to a DEC/VAX cluster for the government and creating an internal security system using VAX Basic/Datatrieve for the Municipality of Burnaby. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- King Abdulaziz City for Science/Technology, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Manager of Computer Services .......... 11/1985 - 07/1986 Environment: Fortran, VAX Basic, COBOL, DCL, VMS As the head of computer operations for the National Observatory Project, I managed the Computer Services Department of KACST's head office in Riyadh, supervising a team of Saudis. Responsibilities commenced with the centralization of all National Observatory Project computing facilities throughout Saudi Arabia. Other responsibilities included: performing an analysis of the Saudi's training needs, preparing proposals containing recommendations with a complete training outline including the VMS operating system, Fortran, VAX Basic, VMS systems management and systems program development and design, in charge of the conversion / development of training a new system of programs concerning computer weather collection, created complete documentation for all existing software systems and operations management to ease the transfer to the Saudi Arabian Government, under Director's request, supported analytical and communications software on newly acquired computers throughout KACST, prepared the initial phase of the addendum to the final report required for circulation in the international scientific community for analysis, and in charge of all VAX/VMS systems management.

Project Manager .......... 04/1983 - 10/1985 Environment: Fortran, VAX Basic, DCL, VMS I initially joined with SANCST in charge of all five National Observatory Project site computer operations. I was responsible for analysis, coding, testing, implementing and documenting all existing and newly developed software including databases, data collection, hardware drivers, communications programs, and extensive statistical analysis software. The analysis and troubleshooting of users' problems and support of the software was also an ongoing commitment. I initially converted many programs and data files from an LSI-1103 RT-11 to a VAX 11-780 VMS but was soon required to oversee the creation of new programs to support the system. With the successful completion of the project, I was responsible for managing the creation of programs and data used to analyze and create interim, plus final reports needed by the Saudi Arabian Government and for publication in the international scientific community.
